Dr. Scherr is currently the Clinical Director of Urologic Oncology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. As part of this role, he maintains a very active clinical practice in Urologic Oncology. He is an active investigator and part of a focused team of researchers investigating various components of clinical and scientific aspects of prostate cancer.
In particular, Dr. Scherr is the PI on the NIH-sponsored Early Detection Research Network (EDRN), which is a multi-institutional effort for biomarker discovery in prostate cancer.
This experience provides vital understanding into NCI-funded programs and involves maintaining pertinent ongoing collaborations with EDRN investigators. Dr. Scherr performs in excess of 200 prostatectomies per year and this serves as a large portion of specimens for the EDRN tissue repository.
Dr. Scherr will also act as Co-Director of the Career Enhancement Program (CEP) on the WCM Prostate SPORE. He has trained numerous residents and fellows in urologic oncology and many of his trainees have gone on to successful academic urology positions including several trainees who have secured independent NIH funding. His activity supports an active and robust tissue bank and utilizes tissue microarray and laboratory facilities in urologic oncology.
