The Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) in Prostate Cancer at Weill Cornell Medicine offers a one to two-year Research Fellowship in Prostate Pathology.
Objectives: The Weill Cornell Medicine SPORE program is composed of four projects focused on highly translational areas relevant to the detection and treatment of prostate cancer. This Research Fellowship has a extensive exposure to oncologic surgical pathology and a comprehensive translational research component. The Fellow will act as a bridge between pathologists, oncologists, surgeons, computational biologists and basic scientists in order to facilitate completion of the SPORE projects. These include the development of biomarkers to assess disease progression, new therapeutic approaches and translation of pre-clinical models into the clinic. The fellow will work closely with the biobank to develop and maintain high quality tissue samples to be used for a variety of research platforms.
Responsibilities and learning opportunities:
- To inventory, review and annotate prostate cancer samples for a variety of studies
- To become familiar with next-generation sequencing platforms
- To be involved in assay development and validation studies
- To participate in other prostate-related pathology research activities, including our rapid autopsy program
- To assist in research activities that support SPORE Projects
